This year also, on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the department of tourism has come with flying colours winning five awards offered by ministry of tourism government of India. The awards were presented by President of India Ramnath Kovind and union tourism minister K J Alphons to Telangana Tourism secretary B Venkatesham at Vignan Bhavan New Delhi on September 27. Tourism secretary while addressing presspersons at Telangana Bhavan said tourism department won five awards and three more went to private-public enterprises. He said his department was straining every nerve to give Telangana state a prominent place in the tourism map of India.
He said Warangal city was declared first in the whole country in Swachtha category in cleanliness drive in its heritage area. The city was declared the heritage city for the second consecutive year. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation( GHMC) won the civic management tourist destination award. A tourist guide Kasinath was declared the best guide for his service spanning 40 years and Apollo Hospitals won the award for health tourism category. He said the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wanted to see the state a leading one in tourism by giving facelift to all tourist spots in the state. The department will strive hard to fulfill his dream, he added.
