The Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao is straining every nerve to promote farmers and make agriculture a model profession. The way he is doing so shows his sincerity and devotion. Unfortunately Telangana occupied second place where number of farmers are committing suicide and the Chief Minister wants to remove this stigma from the forehead of the state. The initiative to give free supply of power to farmers was taken by the former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. Free supply of power to farmers was one of the main promises made by the Congress under the leadership of YSR on the eve of 2004 elections. Then government faced many hurdles but continued 8-hour power supply. At present some other states are also providing free power to farmers, but no state opted for 24×7 power to the farm sector. It is yet another feather in the cap of Telangana state.
The government started round the clock power supply from November 6 on experimental basis and now decided to continue it from January next year. Previously the plan was to start the supply in the month of March, but the scheme was advanced. The Chief Minister said,” The dawn of new year will be historic to the farming community in the state since they will get quality uninterrupted power supply round the clock.” This was disclosed by him on the floor of the assembly on November 13. He also spoke of Rs 8000 per acre support to farmers for fertilizers and other needs. It would not only improve the state’s image outside but also lead to economic buoyancy and stability of the farming community, he said. The Chief Minister should be lauded by one and all for this historic step.
