Leaders from almost all political parties condemned the decision of the United States President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and hoped the Palestinians who have been struggling for their native place would succeed ultimately. They were addressing the meeting at Hotel Taj Deccan on December 15 to express solidarity with Palestine, organized by the Indo-Arab League, a 50 years old organization headed by Syed Viccaruddin, editor, Rahnuma-e-Deccan, Urdu daily.
Chief guest Nayini Narasimha Reddy, the Home Minister of Telangana state expressed the solidarity of his party with the cause of Palestine and hoped the Palestinians would succeed in their struggle as the state Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao gained his motto of separate state of Telangana after a long struggle. He greeted Syed Vicaruddin for organizing the meeting.
Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatriya said the government of India had not changed the decades old policy followed by the country. He said he would meet the Prime Minister and convey to him the sentiments of the meeting on Jerusalem issue.
The ambassador of Tunisia Najmeddin Lakha said his country had always supported the cause of Palestine. He condemned the American decision to shift its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Palestinian ambassador Adnan Abu Al Haija spoke of the long struggle of his people to gain the Palestinian state offering sacrifices and facing suppression by Israel. He said the whole world was condemning the unlawful decision of American President.
The national secretary of CPI S Sudhakar Reddy said Trump bowed down to Israel and recognized Jerusalem as its capital. He said India should condemn the US decision in clear terms instead of maintaining that its policy was not changed. The Jewish state had always violated the resolutions of the UNO.
The chairman, Indo-Arab League Syed Vicaruddin while condemning the US decision on Jerusalem, said the American President Trump was condemned world over for this unlawful announcement of shifting its embassy to Jerusalem. The league has been supporting the cause of Palestine, he said. To help the people in Palestine, the league handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh to the Palestinian ambassador.
Justice Vaman Rao, Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Hamid Mohammad Khan, former MP Aziz Pasha, President Jamiatul Ulma-e-Hind Hafiz Peer Shabir Ahemd, Zafer javid and others also spoke. Vice chairman of the league Dr Mir Akbar Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the meeting.
