It is a matter of anguish for the government of Telangana that centre did not give its nod for the Telangana tableau to be presented during the Republic Day parade. The theme of the tableau was already presented to the centre and discussed with the tableau committee led by defence secretary who agreed to the theme. The government of Telangana also agreed with the modifications suggested by the committee. However, final nod has to come from the centre and then the work on tableau would begin. The preparation and final touches to the tableau would take at least take one month. Now when there are only about two weeks for the R-Day celebrations, it is very difficult to complete the tableau in time.
The government officials did not receive clearance for the exhibit from Delhi till January 9. Ever since the proposal was received from the centre in October for participation in the R-Day parade, the state government started to select the theme. Among many others, Medaram Jathara was chosen for display. This Jathara is the world’s largest tribal festival celebrated in the month of February once every two years. In a bid to promote local culture, the state government is trying to get the festival a national tag. Recently a delegation led by Endowment Minister Indrakaran Reddy met Union Tribal Welfare Minister Jual Oram and presented the proposal for declaring the festival as the national celebration and the minister’s response was positive.
Against this background, the delay in getting an okay for the tableau is a matter of concern for the government.
