The Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot was confident that the Congress win in two Lok Sabha and one assembly seats in the bypolls was not the indication restricted to these constituencies only, but it was the general mood of the people in the state. It was the result of the sustained work of the Congress. The people were convinced that the BJP was not able to deliver goods even with own government at the centre. The byelection results are the reflection of the sentiments of the people. He said not only in rural areas but even in cities and towns the BJP was losing its ground.
Sachin Pilot said he had to work from the stretch as in the last general elections, the Congress won only 21 seats out of 200. It was the worst debacle for the party. The party’s work during the last four years changed the scenario. When asked about the farmer-friendly budget, he said if the government had soft corner for the farmer, why nothing was given to farmers in the first budget. In that budget the corporate sector was given the waiver of Rs 2 lakh crore. As the elections were round the corner, the government has shown sympathy towards the farm sector. Steps taken at that moment would not work, he said.
He said the Congress would contest polls without declaring Chief Ministerial candidate. Only on the few occasions, the Congress declares the name of the would-be Chief Minister. It is the legislature party that chooses its leader, he said.
