The Congress President Rahul Gandhi made sharp criticism against the government for allowing the millionaire jeweller Nirav Modi to escape from the country even when he was caught defrauding the Punjab National Bank for a huge sum of Rs 14400 crore. This is not the first but third glaring example of the stark negligence on the part of the intelligence agencies, first the IPL initiator Lalit Modi and then liquor baron Vijay Mallya fled the country and they are still absconding. All of them are criminals of huge financial bungling.
After the sensational fraud came to the notice of the bank and was covered by the print and electronic media, Rahul Gandhi on February 19 fired another salvo at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his usual silence on such occasions. The Prime Minister has always been all vocal to present himself as the servant of the nation, but when such scandals appear, and they are occurring often and anon, he keeps mum.
Taking to Twitter the Congress president said the entire country was keen to know the secret behind his silence and it was evident that his sympathy lied with the fraudster. He said where is the watchman who said , “Na Khaoonga, na khaane doonga.” It is reported that Nirav Modi was in the official team that accompanied the Prime Minister when he went to Davos, the global meet of world leaders and investors. A picture showing the fraudster with the Prime Minister’s team was covered by a large section of print media.
