Will PM go on fast for women’s safety and other failures of the government?

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on April 11 asked MPs to expose the few who throttled democracy by not allowing the proceedings of the second leg of the Budget session. Forgetting the fact that the boot is on the other foot and it was his party and government that wasted the precious time of the Parliament, he blamed the Congress on creating ruckus in the lower and upper Houses of Parliament. He is providing a grand show of sitting on fast on April 13 for the washout of the Budget session. The Hyderabad MP and MIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi rightly reminded him that he should go on fast for the cause of farmers who are committing suicide in many parts of the country. He should go on fast to atone the sins of the government in not fulfilling the promises, the MP advised the PM.

We are reminding the PM a stark reality that the government has given a slogan, “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” but it miserably failed to give women safety and they are being raped and killed with more impunity than in the past. An inhuman case came to light from Jammu where an 8-year-old girl was abducted, kept in custody in a temple room. She was gang-raped and killed and the caretaker of the temple is also allegedly involved. While filing FIR, the cops were stalled by the BJP workers. The charge sheet said it was a planned conspiracy.

After the BJP workers, it is a case of a BJP MLA in Uttar Pradesh where contrary to the CM Yogi’s claim, the jungle raj is calling shots. On the plea of Gopal S Chaturvedi,an advocate, the High Court took suo motu cognizance and asked the government to submit the report. In the gang rape case of a teen-aged girl, the BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was named as the main accused. The added tragedy is that the victim’s father died in police custody. It is alleged by the victim and other kin that he was beaten to death. Is it not the utter failure of the slogan given by the Modi government? But such cases will seldom draw the attention of the PM.
