General Secretary CPM Sitaram Yechury while addressing the inaugural session of the national convention of the party in Hyderabad said it was high time for political parties to join hands to defeat the BJP in the 2019 elections as during its tenure the ruling party destroyed the democratic values of the country which is drifting towards a dictatorship. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given free hand to the Sangh Parivar to communalise the atmosphere. Hatred and intolerance is being created on religious lines. This will destroy the secular identity of the country. The wrong economic policies have slowed down the growth. The unwarranted and uncalled for demonetization demolished thousands of jobs in the country, he said.
He said the promise was made by the Prime Minister that two crore jobs would be provided to the youth every year but doing nothing on the employment front the PM disappointed the young generation. In the name of the safety to cows, the Gau Rakshaks are free to attack Muslims and Dalits and kill them with immunity. He said the BJP was using rape to polarize the society and divide the nation on religious lines. He said the rape incidents at Kathua in Kashmir and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh were shameful. It was shameful for the BJP that the ministers from the party defended the accused, he said.
In this 5-day session, the party will decide whether it will join any alliance led by the Congress. There is difference among the top leaders on the issue.
