There was a time when the Hindutva school of thought was at the fringe of Indian politics, but slowly and gradually, it is spreading its tentacles far and wide and coming out in its full glory for everyone to see. There was a time when the talks of Hindu Rashtra and ethnic cleansing were frowned upon and talked about in hushed voices but today, the tune of Hindu Rashtra is being sung from the loudspeakers.
In a freewheeling speech at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s annual Dussehra event, organizational chief Mohan Bhagwat said,
“The vision and proclamation of the Sangh regarding the identity of the nation, the social identity of all of us, and the identity of the country’s nature are clear, well-thought-of and firm that Bharat is Hindustan, Hindu Rashtra”. This has removed all doubts about the agenda and plan of action of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Mohan Bhagwat appreciated the Modi government for the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir while giving the government a clean chit on the state of the economy. He also seemed determined to distance the organization of RSS from incidents of lynching and communal violence across the country and claimed that it was an attempt to malign the organization by associating it with such instances.
On the issue of abrogation of Article 370, he asserted that this effort will come to fruition only when justice denied under the influence of Article 370 is restored, injustices occurred are brought to an end. It will happen when the Kashmiri Pandits who were unjustly driven away are brought back and rehabilitated. This also clearly denotes his complete disregard for the Kashmiri Muslim population who are suffering under lockdown for more than two months.
Mohan Bhagwat also preached against generalizing an entire community because of the crimes of a few. Bhagwat also acknowledged that it was not always that one particular community attacks the other, the other side also hits out. But this does not mean you label a whole community in a certain way.
He completely absolved BJP and RSS from the crime of preaching hatred against Muslims and other minorities that lead to lynching. He claimed that lynching is a foreign concept and society should know where this word comes from. He quoted an incident from the life of Jesus to hint where the concept has been derived from.
Bhagwat also said the current slowdown in the economy was just a phase and the country will get over it. There is no need to discuss the topic so much as the government was taking necessary corrective steps. This also goes on to prove that economic growth of the country was never the agenda of RSS, all it ever cared about was a Hindu Rashtra.
Congress veteran leader Digvijaya Singh said the lynchings and communal hatred will end the day RSS chief starts following his own message on harmony. The day his followers start practicing unity truly, the problems his party has with the RSS will cease to exist.
