On Friday, comedian Kunal Kamra was charged with contempt over his tweets criticising the top court’s decision to grant bail to Goswami. Kamra has declined to apologise for his tweets.
The president of India’s Supreme Court Bar Association highlighted the subjectivity in hearing pleas in a letter on November 10.
“In April this year as well, Goswami had received almost instant hearing at the Supreme Court and got relief as well. I am not against the latest verdict or Goswami. I just want that every lawyer and his/her client receive the same access to judicial remedy,” Dushyant A Dave told said.
“Selective treatment for the high and mighty like Goswami only lowers the credibility of the judiciary as an institution.”he said.
Kamra, in a series of tweets, had criticised the apex court’s order of granting Arnab interim bail in abetment to suicide case.
The four tweets that had resulted in Siddiquee’s actions are:
1. The Supreme Court of this country is the most Supreme joke of this country.
2 .The pace at which the Supreme Court operates in matters of “National Interests” it’s time we replace Mahatma Gandhi’s photo with Harish Salve’s photo.
3. DY Chandrachud is a flight attendant serving champagne to first class passengers after they’re fast tracked through, while commoners don’t know if they’ll ever be boarded or seated, let alone served.
4. All lawyers with a spine must stop the use of the prefix “Hon’ble” while referring to the Supreme Court or its judges. Honour has left the building long back.
